How to get more columns in Google Sheets.

Google Sheets is a versatile and powerful tool for managing data and performing analysis. One of its key features is the ability to add columns to a sheet, allowing you to expand and customize your data as needed. 

Here in this dataset, we have the Name, Age, Gender, Occupation, and Salary of a few people. In this tutorial, we will learn how to add more columns in Google Sheets, as well as provide a diverse dataset to help you practice but first let’s take a look at the Dataset.

Method – 1 Using Insert tab

The “Insert” tab options in Google Sheets can be used to add new columns to a spreadsheet.  These options are availabe under the drop down menu of insert tab, which is available in the list of main tabs. Follow the steps mentioned below to learn how to do it.

Step – 1 Select the column.

  • Select the column letter where you want to add a new column on the left.
  • Open the Insert tab.
  • Click on the Column command.

Step – 2 Adding the columns.

  • Clicking on the Columns command will give you two options, Insert 1 column left and Insert 1 column right.
  • Choose the option you want and the column will be added.
  • In addition if you want to add more than one column then select the number of columns you want to add for example, if you want to add two columns then select two columns first and followt the steps again which are mentioned above. 
  • Now, this time when you click on insert tab and go to the Columns options, Google Sheets will give you the option to add 2 columns because you selected 2 columns initially.

Method – 2 Using Context menu

The second method to add columns in a Google Sheet is to use the context menu options to add new columns in the existing sheet. This is much direct approach if you prefer to use context menus more than the main menu options

Step – 1 Select the column.

  • Select the column letter where you want to add a new column on the left.
  • Right-click on the column letter to open the Context Menu.

Step – 2 Adding the columns.

  • There will be two options available Insert 1 column left and Insert 1 column right.
  • Choose the option you want and the column will be added.
  • In addition to this, if you want to add more than one column (e.g., 2) then select as many columns as you want to add. 
  • Follow the sub steps 1 and 2 of this step and you will see that there will be an option to add the same number of columns you selected initially.
