How to remove highlighted cells in Excel

Excel is a powerful tool for organizing and analyzing data, but sometimes we need to Remove Formatting from certain cells, such as highlighting. Highlighting cells is a useful way to draw attention to specific data, but it can also be distracting and cluttered. In this blog post, we’ll walk you through the steps to Remove Highlighted Cells in Excel. 

Here we have a dataset above containing Fruits and their Quantity, in this dataset, there are three highlighted columns that we need to remove. In this tutorial, we will learn a step-by-step procedure on how to remove highlighted cells using two different methods, one method is for Hiding the highlighted cells whereas the second method is for Deleting the highlighted cells. Let’s take a look at the DATASET.

Method 1: Use a Filter to hide the highlighted cells.

Step 1 – Select the highlighted cells.

  • Select the highlighted cell.
  • Drag it to the rest of the cells.
  • Go to the DATA tab.
  • Select the FILTER command in the SORT & FILTER ribbon.
  • Drop-down arrows will appear at the cells.

Step 2 – Filtering the highlighted cells.

  • Click on the dropdown arrow.
  • The Filter by colour command will be displayed.
  • Clicking on the Filter by colour command will reveal the No Fill command.

Step 3 – Removing the highlighted cells.

  • Clicking the No Fill command will remove the highlighted cells.

Method 2: Deleting the highlighted cells.

Step 1 – Select the highlighted cells.

  • Select the highlighted cell.
  • Drag it to the rest of the cells.
  • Go to the DATA tab.
  • Select the FILTER command in the SORT & FILTER ribbon.
  • Drop-down arrows will appear at the cells.

Step 2 – Locate the Filter by Cell Color option

  • Click on the dropdown arrow.
  • The Filter by colour command will be displayed.
  • Clicking on the Filter by colour command will reveal the Filter by cell colour command.

Step 3 – Use Filter by Cell Color to show the required data

  • Click on the highlighted colour you want to delete in the Filter by cell colour command.
  • This will remove the non-highlighted rows.

Step 4 – Deleting the highlighted rows.

  • Go to the Home tab.
  • Click on the Delete command in the Cells ribbon
  • This deletes the highlighted rows.
