How to delete alternate rows in Excel

Deleting alternate rows in Excel means removing every other row from a selected range of cells deleting alternate rows in Excel can be a useful technique for data management and presentation. It can help to make your data more organized, easier to work with, and more visually appealing.

In this tutorial, we will learn how to delete alternate rows in excel. In our data set above average daily sales of a shop are shown for 2015 to 2023. But we want to show sales after 1 year. It means we require alternating data for this we use 

Method 1: Deleting Alternative rows using a Color filter

Step 1 – Select the Range of cells

  • Select the range of cells from which you want to delete alternative rows

Step 2 – Format as Table

  • After selecting the data, Click on Format as Table and a drop-down menu will appear
  • Select the second table in the medium range and a dialog box will appear, In this dialogue box, Click on OK
  • And your data will be converted into table form

Step 3 – Convert the data to range

  • Select the data
  • Click on Convert to Range in the Tools group of the Table Design tab

Step 4 – Apply Filter

  • To apply a filter Click on the Sort and Filter option in the Editing group of the Home tab

Step 5 – Apply Filter by color

  • Click on the Arrow at the first cell of your data and a dropdown menu will appear
  • From this menu click on Sort by Color and a dropdown menu will appear
  • From this menu, click on No Fill
  • And the rows having no color will be shown

Step 6 – Delete the data

  • To delete the data, Select the shown data using the selection handle.
  • After selecting the complete range of shown data, right-click anywhere in the selected region, and a Context menu will appear.
  • In the Context menu, click on the Delete row option and the selected data will be deleted

Step 7 – Clear Filter

  • After deleting the data, click on the arrow in the first cell of data and a dropdown menu will appear
  • From this menu, click the Clear Filter option 
  • And the data with the colour will be shown(data other than deleted data)

Method 2: Deleting Alternative Rows using Filter

Step 1 – Apply filter 

  • Select the range of data upon which you want to apply the filter
  • Click on the Sort and Filter option in the Editing group of the Home tab and a dropdown menu will appear
  • From this menu, click on the Filter option

Step 2 – Filter the data

  • After applying the filter, Click on the arrow on the first cell of selected data and a dialogue box will appear
  • In the dialogue box click on the data that you want to delete
  • Click on Ok at the end of the dialogue box and the data you want to delete will be shown

Step 3 – Delete the data

  • TO delete the data, Select the complete range of shown data
  • Click on the Delete Cells option in the cells group of the Home tab
  • All the shown data will be deleted

Step 4 – Remove the Filter

  • To remove the filter, click on the Sort and Filter option in the Editing group on the Home tab, and a drop-down menu will appear From this menu, Click on Clear to get the result
