How to copy row height in Microsoft Excel 

Copying row height in Excel means that you are applying the same height measurement of one row to another row in your worksheet. This is useful when you want to keep the same height measurement across multiple rows.

In this tutorial, we will learn how to copy row height in Microsoft Excel. In Microsoft Excel, copying row height is a very simple process. We can use the Format button in the Home tab for this purpose or we can simply paste a row format using the Paste Special feature and the Format Painter.

For instance, if we have a sample data set, we will copy the row height of the header row and apply it to row 7.

Method 1: Using the Format Tab

Step 1 – Select the Row

  • Select the row, from which the height is to be copied.

Step 2 – Click on the Format Drop-down Arrow 

  • Click on the Format drop-down arrow in the Cells section of the Home tab.
  • A drop-down menu will appear.

Step 3 – Click on the Row Height Option and Copy the Height 

  • Click on the Row Height option in the menu.
  • The Row Height dialog box will appear.
  • The row height can be copied from the dialog box by using CTRL+C or the context menu.

Method 2: Using Keyboard Shortcut Keys

Step 1 – Select the Row

  • Select the row, from which the height is to be copied.

Step 2 – Press the ALT+H+O+H Keys

  • Press the ALT+H+O+H shortcut key to open the Row Height dialog box.
  • The Row height can be then copied from the dialog box.

Method 3: Using the Format Painter

Step 1 – Select the Row

  • Select the row, from which the height is to be copied.

Step 2 – Click on the Format Painter Option

  • Click on the Format Painter option in the Clipboard section of the Home tab.
  • The format i.e. the height will be copied ( the complete format of the row will be copied i.e. the Fill Color of the row).
  • To copy only height we will remove the fill color applied on the row.

Step 3 – Apply the Row Height by Clicking on the Row

  • You may then apply the copied row height on any row by clicking on the row.

Method 4: Using Paste Special

Step 1 – Copy the Row

  • Copy the row by selecting the complete row and then using the CTRL+C keys.
  • To select the complete row, we can click on the row header.

Step 2 – Right-Click on the Row

  • Right-click on the row where the height is to be applied.
  • The context menu will appear.

Step 3 – Click on the Paste Special Option and Select Format

  • Click on the Paste Special option in the context menu.
  • The Paste Special dialog box will open.
  • Select the Format option in the dialog box and click on OK.
