How to convert formula to a number in Microsoft Excel 

In Excel, when you enter a formula into a cell, Excel will automatically calculate the result of the formula based on the values of the cells it references. This means that the cell containing the formula will display a dynamic value that changes whenever the values of the referenced cells change. For this, we can change the formulae to a number.

In this tutorial, we will learn how to convert formulae to a number in Microsoft Excel. In Excel, there may be cases where you want to convert a formula into a static value or number. To convert a formula into a number in Excel, you can use multiple methods i.e. we can use the Paste Special option or keyboard shortcut keys.

For instance, we have calculated the selling prices of some products using a formulae. We want to copy and paste the values returned by the formulae into the price list column.

Method 1: Using the Paste Special Option

Step 1 – Select the Cells

  • Select the cells containing the values in the form of formulas.

Step 2 – Copy the Selected Cells

  • Copy the selected cell.
  • For this, we can simply press the CTRL+C shortcut keys or we can copy using the context menu.

Step 3 – Select the Destination Cell

  • Select the destination where you want to paste the formulas as numbers.

Step 4 – Right-Click on the Cell

  • Right-click on the cell where you want to paste the numbers.
  • A context menu will appear.

Step 5 – Click on the Paste as values Icon 

  • Click on the Paste as Values icon under Paste Options in the context menu.
  • The formulas will be converted into numbers.

Method 2: Using Keyboard Shortcut Keys

Step 1 – Select the Cells

  • Select the cells containing the formulas to be converted into numbers.

Step 2 – Copy the Selected Cells

  • Copy the selected cell.
  • For this, we can simply press the CTRL+C shortcut keys or we can copy using the context menu.

Step 3 – Select the Destination Cell

  • Select the destination where you want to paste the formulas as numbers.

Step 4 – Press the Shortcut Keys

  • Press the ALT+E+S+V and then ENTER shortcut keys.
  • The copied formulas will be automatically pasted as values.

Method 3 – Using the Cursor to Convert Formulas Numbers

Step 1 – Select the Cells

  • Select the cells containing the formulas to be converted into numbers.

Step 2 – Copy the Selected Cells

  • Copy the selected cell.
  • For this, we can simply press the CTRL+C shortcut keys or we can copy using the context menu.

Step 3 – Hover the Cursor over the Borders

  • Hover the cursor over any of the borders of the cell.
  • The cursor will convert into a four-direction arrow.

Step 4 – Right-Click on the Border and Drag and Drop the Cursor

  • Right-click on the border of the cell.
  • Drag the cursor over the destination.
  • Drop the cursor.
  • A pop-up menu will appear.

Step 5 – Click on the Copy Here as the Values Only Option

  • Click on the Copy Here as Values Only option in the pop-up menu.
  • The formulas will be converted into numbers.

Method 4: Converting a Formulae into a Number Individually

Step 1 – Select the Cell 

  • Select the cell with the formulae to be converted into a number.

Step 2 – Press F2+F9+ENTER Keys

  • Press the F2+F9+ENTER one after another.
  • The formulae will be converted into a number.
