How to add minus sign in Excel

In Excel, when you type a hyphen followed by more numbers and hyphens e.g. -9-9-9, Excel treats the hyphens as a minus sign and the whole entry as an arithmetic operation. To make Excel display such numbers as they are, without summing them, the entry should be preceded by a single quote (‘).
Step 1 – Numbers with a leading hyphen
– Type numbers with a leading hyphen
– The numbers are summed
Step 2 – Add a single quote
– Type a single quote (‘) followed by the hyphen/minus sign and the rest of the numbers
