How to multiply in Google Sheets

You will frequently need to multiply numbers in Google Sheets when performing calculations. For example, you may need to calculate the total cost of an order using the item price and the order quantity. This can be easily done using the multiplication operator (*) of Google Sheets. There are multiple ways in which this can be used.
Option 1 – Use the formula suggestion
Step 1 – Invoke the formula suggestion

- In the cell where you want the result to appear, type an equal sign (=)
- The multiplication of the numbers will be suggested
Note: If the formula suggestion does not appear, enable the feature by going to Tools > Autocomplete > Enable formula suggestions
Step 2 – Accept the formula suggestion

- Check that the cells selected are correct
- Press Enter
- The product of the numbers will be displayed
Option 2 – Type the formula using the multiplication operator
Step 1 – Enter the formula

- Select the cell in which the result is to appear
- Type the formula using cell references:
=Price * Order Quantity
- Press Enter
