How to format cells in Google Sheets

Google sheets provides us with built-in functions and tools by which we can solve our Complex problems within seconds and these problems can be solved by one click while sitting in remote areas. It has made our life easier and more convenient. Google sheet allows us to format the cells in different styles by different conditions. We can manage our cells by applying some rules of our own choice.

In this tutorial, we will learn how to format cells in Google sheets. Some of the cell formats are given by default and we can also make our own rules/conditions. There are two methods by which we can format cells in Google sheets.

Method 1 – Use built-in formatting tools

This method allows users to customize cells in Google sheets by using default formatting options. Numbers , texts , alignment , wrapping , rotation , font size , merge cells; these options are given by default and users can adjust their data accordingly. We will rotate the text and align it to the right as an example.

Steps are given below;

Step 1 – Select the cell and apply formatting conditions

  • Select the data range of your choice.
  • Click on format Tab.
  • The drop down menu will appear.
  • Click on rotation.
  • A side menu will appear. Rotate it according to requirements.
  • Click on alignment , a side menu will appear and click on align right.

Method 2 – Use conditional formatting 

This method allows us to format the cells as per requirement. By this method we can apply different conditions for the data visualization and sorting. We can provide some mathematical conditions for the data arrangements.

Step 1 – Select the data and apply the formatting

  • Select the data range of your choice.
  • Click on format Tab.
  • The drop down menu will appear.
  • Click on Conditional formatting. A side menu will appear. 
  • Click on Format Rules.
  • Add your rules according to your requirement , In this case we will find the values greater than 800.
  • Change the color of your choice.
  • Click on Done.
  • As you click, the result will be highlighted.

We have successfully changed the cell formatting in google sheet by the above two methods.
